Blackbird Event Group was founded from a deep love for Ibiza, its energy, its people, and the endless possibilities it offers. Founded by Merel, fittingly meaning “blackbird” in Dutch, the company is built on years of hands-on experience in hospitality, artist management, and high-profile event production.

Merel’s journey began long before Blackbird existed. After spending several summers working many different jobs across the island, she officially made Ibiza home in 2011. Her career took off at the legendary Space Ibiza (now Hï), where she worked as the assistant to the director and played a key role in producing two major weekly events. Immersed in the fast-paced world of music, entertainment, and logistics, she gained invaluable insight into what makes an event truly exceptional and developed the ability to execute seamless, high-impact events in one of the most dynamic markets in the world.

With time, the natural next step was to channel that knowledge into her own business. After some professional detours and evolutions, Blackbird Event Group was born; a company built on transparency, creativity, and an intimate understanding of Ibiza’s unique rhythm; Blackbird is a full-service event agency specializing in brand activations, corporate gatherings, business incentives, wedding, media productions and bespoke experiences.

Blackbird brings more than just expertise; it brings an insider’s perspective. Having experienced Ibiza as a tourist, seasonal worker, and business owner, the team has developed an extensive network and an unparalleled understanding of how the island operates. 

The road hasn’t always been easy. The COVID era delivered a heavy blow to the island, with two years of near standstill, forcing a shift in the tourism and event industry. Blackbird, like many businesses, had to adapt. The challenge wasn’t just survival, it was about reinvention. The Ibiza of today is different, with a growing appreciation for nature, sustainability, and experiences that extend beyond the summer season. Blackbird has evolved with it, dedicated to creating events that align with these new values, experiences that are immersive, meaningful and memorable, without compromising on quality.

Named after a bird, it isn’t a surprise that animal welfare is a core value for us, with active contributions to local initiatives such as TNR programs for stray cats, fostering, and international adoption efforts.
